Sightseeing or dinner: choosing your Bosphorus cruise
Daylight shows you the landmarks; the evening shows you the city lit up. A short guide to picking the cruise that suits your trip.

Most visitors only have time for one cruise, so it helps to know what each kind is for. The question is less “which is better” than “what do you want to see?”
The sightseeing cruise: the landmarks in daylight
A sightseeing cruise is about the shore. In daylight you can pick out the palaces, the fortresses and the yalı mansions, read the names, and photograph them. The cruise we recommend sails for about two hours from Ahırkapı Pier below Topkapı Palace, up the European shore to Rumeli Hisarı and back along the Asian side.
It suits a first visit to Istanbul, families, and anyone who wants to understand how the city fits around the strait.
The dinner cruise: the strait at night
A dinner cruise is about the evening. The landmarks become silhouettes and strings of light, the bridges change colour, and the meal sets the pace. It suits a special night out more than a first look at the city.
If you can, do both
The two are less alike than they sound. Seen by day first, the shore makes much more sense by night: you know which lights are Dolmabahçe and which are the fortress walls.
Whichever you choose, check the day’s calendar, what is included and the cancellation terms on the booking page before you pay.
